Throwback! Just found this one in the archives and wanted to share it with the world- LJ didn't win Superunknown III, but still went on to crush it over the next few years, logging comp wins and segments with some of the best film companies out. We couldn't be more stoked to finally have LJ on the Level 1 crew for the 2012 season- and couldn't be more bummed that his season was just cut short. Send that kid some positive healing vibes!

Aspen, Colorado — For the first time in Winter X Games history, the Men’s Ski Slopestlye final was held under the lights at Buttermilk Mountain. That, along with the falling snow, provided the ideal backdrop for Tom Wallisch’s gold medal record score of 96.00, his first Winter X Games medal. “This is amazing,” Wallisch said with a smile beaming across his face. “Under the lights in primetime and this crowd, it is amazing. I think it’s going to open the sport up to a bigger audience and make it just that much sicker to watch." His winning run was highlighted by a wallride on the first feature, deemed Wall Street that left his fellow competitors wowed. With the competition level at an all-time...

Last day at Stevens Pass- Hornbeck stumbled upon this field of overgrown marshmallows. We're calling this zone the "Bird Massacre Pillows" after finding the gruesome remains of dead birds strewn all over the place- weird, yeah, looks like some crows decided to pick on some little birds and things got outta hand. Weird. True.

Logan took it upon himself to put together one of the slickest self-edits that we've seen yet....

As seen in the October 2011 issue of FREESKIER. Words and photos: Chris O'Connell_LEVEL_1 THREE TOUGH LOOKING RUSSIAN POLICE WALK TOWARDS US TOTING PISTOL GRIP KALASHNIKOV RIFLES. It’s 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning in the suburbs of Moscow, in a country where few people (especially police) smile in public and corruption is rampant. All I can think about is that things can go real bad, real quick. I look around at my crew—skiers Tom Wallisch, Ahmet Dadali and Mike Hornbeck, and Level 1 Productions filmer Kyle Decker— and see they all appear similarly gripped, out of place and less than comfortable in the minus 18-degree morning. The mission is a quad-kink rail we had been kicked of the previous night by a crazed tenant of the nearby housing projects. Obviously, it wasn’t the first time someone had come to shred the solid...

The world tour of shots was incredible. Skiers like Ahmet Dadali (fresh off a best male performance from last year's Eye Trip) continued to shred, and other personal favorite riders Tom Wallisch and Parker White nailed their segments as well. Sun Valley shots were sick... as was the Moscow and Japan footy. Itunes download is eminent. 'After Dark' delivered the gnar, and the hosts delivered the atmosphere. Snowriders and Greatest Bar put on a hell of a party. This was my first exposure to Snowriders, a unique ski/snowboard tour organizer based out of Boston. Looks like their trips are targeted at a more of...

Last year when I hosted a premiere in Prince George, BC for Level 1 Productions’ 11th feature film, Eye Trip, all I was hoping for was to sell enough tickets to break even for the night, and maybe have enough money left over to buy a new pair of bindings. But when I made a last minute decision to donate the profits from the night to a young man, whose name I hardly knew, I had no idea the snowball effect I was about to create.

Shortly after last year’s Eye Trip premiere I took some time to write to Level 1’s Josh Berman to let him know what we had done with the money from the premiere, and being the top notch guy he is, Josh donated Level 1’s portion of...

Check the video at NBCMontana.com

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- It was anything but business as usual when Ginger Warren went to leave for work Sunday. "I heard a crash of a trash can hitting the ground and I knew that was not right so, I turned around and went back in the house and woke my husband up and he came out here," says Ginger. Armed only with a flashlight and a belt, Frank Warren found at least six bears in his backyard, going through trash and eating apples from his tree. "I tried to run him off, scare him off, which didn't work. He did run to the apple tree but he turned around and he came back facing, and he came back charging me so, I ran back and he went to that tree and he hugged it,...

We scooped the pix and words from this story from Newschoolers.com

Last October Level 1 Productions premiered “Eye Trip” in Prince George, BC. At the premiere Level 1 charged a cover and provided gear for the raffle. The movie was well-received and the packed venue coupled with the oohs and aahs during the film were evidence of that. Unlike most premieres though, all of the proceeds from the raffle and admission for the event went to a good cause, (then 15-year-old) Landon McGauley from Quesnel, British Columbia. High Fives Foundation and Level 1 Productions have had a long relationship, and upon hearing the story of teenage British Columbia native Landon McGauley, High Fives reached out to Level 1 for the introduction. On July 4th of last year Landon was involved in a downhill mountain biking...

One of the most anticipated events of the Fall here in Utah went off at the Sold Out Depot on September 14th, when 4bi9 Media proudly presented Begging for Change followed by Level 1 Productions' After Dark. Crowds gathered outside early, anxiously awaiting the doors to open for their chance see these two epic movies. At 7:30pm, the crowd got their wish, and a mad rush of people pushed their way into the event as soon as the doors opened. Madness ensued instantly, as kids dashed to reserve their seats while others made their way towards the lobby to purchase some fresh new gear and raffle tickets for a chance at winning some even better schwag. Ahmet did a quick Q&A with the crew from Skiers.dk on his past season, filming with Level 1, and the state of skiing in general.  As always, he speaks his mind.

Hey Ahmet. What are you up to at the moment? Yo man, at this moment I am chillin in MT. Hood Oregon, just got done with a road bike ride to start the morning off, grabbed some fruits to keep the body healthy. We are a lot of people who are looking forward to ”After Dark” from Level 1 Productions. Can we expect the same sick part in “After Dark” like you had in Eye Trip? I'd like to think so, I worked on a rough cut of my segment with my homie Decker, and it's looking pretty good.  I got cut a little short of a full...

Last year, Parker White made a cameo appearance in Level 1 Productions’ film Eye Trip. This year, for After Dark,White traveled to places like Hokkaido, Japan, and Cooke City, Mont., with L1P, and he has a full-on segment in the film. Here, Powder.com talks with White about his groundbreaking year and his adventures with the Level 1 crew. Powder.com: What have you been up to this summer?
PARKER WHITE: I was hanging out in California, and then flew back to Pennsylvania to visit my sister and niece who live in Pottstown, which was cool. Next I headed down to Vermont to see my dad and some of my friends. Soon I was off to Bar Harbor, Maine because my mom lives up there. I got to ride my motorcycle around. Check the full writeup here. Needless to say, we're pretty flattered at the mention! (CBS)- Level 1 Productions is known for its yearly release of the best freeskiing films out there. This year, "After Dark" takes it to a whole new level (pun intended), with death-defying jumps, and tricks with moves that will leave you stunned and absolutely speechless. It is a video shot with some of the world's best and most extreme freeskiers out there, so you know the action will be incredible. But the camera work is truly awesome, exposing us to a reality we rarely are a part of, a visual experience unlike anything we've seen. While this is just the trailer, the entire film is set to be released on September 9th, 2011, so get ready to be blown away in a few months when footage like...

Interesting stuff.

Good for the sport?  Bad?  Mixture of the two?  Should slopestyle and pipe really be considered as under  the Freestyle Skiing umbrella?  Who's REALLY going to cash in on this?

The below text pulled from Urtur.com: Today the IOC Executive Board met in Durban, South Africa and has decided to include Ski Slopstyle to the program of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia!  IOC President Jacque Rogge and the Executive Board had delayed the addtion of Ski Slopestyle for further review after announcing Ski Halfpipe to the program in April of 2011.  After this review Ski Slopestyle moves forward. Freestyle Skiing has seen a 150% increase in its Olympic Sports since the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy when only Moguls and Aerials where on the program. In the 2010 Olympic...

Former standup comic turned action sports photographer Nate Abbott recaps our recent shoot in Breckenridge, CO.  Check it!

There is a storm brewing in the ski industry and I wonder if I'm getting myself into the middle of a battle between ski movie crews that can only end in an all out SoCal versus Rocky Mountains brawl, the likes of which haven't been seen since the days of Biggie and Tupac? You see, after spending last week shooting at Keystone with the Poorboyz crew, I made the huge leap, if not geographically, to Breckenridge for a shoot with Level 1 Productions. As I saw the hard stares of the Level 1 crew directed at me, the outsider, and received vaguely threatening Tweets from my former Poorboyz crew, I retreated to a perch high in a moderately unsafe tree, teetering...

Alright, this sure ain't "Level 1" news, and its not related to skiing at all, but since so many important edits over the past few years have featured some classic Biggie tracks and remixes, this is definitely interesting enough to warrant a 2 minute read. It's been 14 years since The Notorious B.I.G. (real name: Christopher Wallace) was killed in Los Angeles in a drive-by shooting. Several probes and investigations have yet to bring the criminal(s) to justice, and fans of the legendary rhymer have been left wondering what has been accomplished by authorities handling the case. Now, finally, the FBI has released its (heavily redacted) documents on the murder, and several facts were revealed'”one being that the bullets that killed him were rare Gecko 9mm ammunition, made only in Germany and sold Stateside only in California and New Jersey. Quick update from photog Tim Llyod's blog: My japanese adventure with Level 1 Productions has just come to an end after two weeks of shooting in Hokkaido, the north island of Japan with a great crew consisting of Tanner Rainville, Wiley Miller, Parker White, Jimbo Morgan, Josh Berman and Tatsuya Tayagaki. During the trip we experienced such a variation in snow conditions making decision making tricky at times deciding what zones to head to. Luckily the snow gods were on hand to dump such a large amount of snow giving us at least a few days of deep Japanese Pow everyone comes to expect. Check the full update...

Stan Evans checks in from the UT backcountry... Often best-laid plans fall apart. Especially when you're filming for a ski movie. What started as a pretty simple plan of going with Level 1 Productions to scope some new terrain in northeast Utah ended up getting complicated. We had checked out some maps, rented a cabin and set our sights high. But one day of recon in sub-arctic temperatures and multiple sled wrecks threatened to hamper our optimism. Luckily, our crew -- Level 1's Kyle Decker and Freedle Coty and athletes Chris Logan and Ahmet Dadali -- remained unfazed. Check the full update and gallery of pix on Stan's ESPN.com...

Check out some exclusive vid of Will Wesson and Ian Compton hitting up some Tahoe jib action courtesy of ESPN.com Shot and edited by Jake Strassman Interview by John Symms:  What is skiing to you? Will Wesson says it's "anything I do with skis on my feet." The 24-year-old from Victor, New York, spends his winters pushing the limits of that definition, jibbing everything from tennis nets to PVC to frozen lakes. He recently returned from Europe, where he was filming for the next episode of Line's Traveling Circus, which is being released on Sunday. Wesson is featured alongside Ian Compton in this exclusive video from Tahoe shot by Level 1 Productions, the second in a series of edits Level 1 is producing for ESPN (if you missed the first, find it here). High temps and rain traveled thru most of the midwest and east coast on the final days of 2010. So with no snow in the forecast I decided to drive the 22 hours from Ohio and made my way back to Denver to meet up with Ahmet and Hornbeck. From there we pointed the rig north for another 22 hours Canada bound, picking up 2010 Superunknown winner Logan Imlach at the small airport in Great Falls, MT. After several hours held up at the boarder explaining exactly what type of skiing we were doing we were off. With low temps and plenty of snow back on the horizon things are looking up! Read More »

When there's 50+ cm of new snow (just under 2 feet, for those not metrically inclined) and the road to the trailhead isn't plowed, what do you do?  Well, you sure as hell don't wait for the plow to show up.  You drop 'er into 4-low and you send 'er!  Tanner Rainville, Josh Bibby, and Adam Delorme get after it in the Nomad Range in central BC.

This particular morning we logged more overhood pow shots on the drive in then we've ever seen!  Sketchy.  The skiing wasn't bad either.

Level 1's favorite urban photog Erik Seo has been pounding the pavement, logging frequent flyer miles, and otherwise chasing snow for the past few months banging out shots across North America with our crews. From his blog: "Sorry for the lack of updates but it's been a really busy early season for me.  There's been lots of snow in the good ol USA this season so far and because of it, I've been shooting a lot.  Really, a lot.  It's not even the new year, and I've shot more days than I had at the end of February last season!'¦albeit, last season was a really low snow year.  Out of the last 45 days, I've shot 30 of them, traveled on 5 of them, spent 8 of them in front of the computer editing and only 3 of them have been doing...

If you live in North America, at least outside of the Southern states, you've probably witnessed some pretty substantial snowfall over the past few months. On Friday we took the Eye Trip World Tour to the jib capital of the midwest, Minesota. The premiere was hosted by Summit Boardshop. If your not familiar with Summit Boardshop, it's a shop that truly 'gets it'. With the increase of internet sales, ski shops have to adapt to embrace the local community and I can't think of a shop that does a better job at this. From an indoor skatepark, foam pit, and rail park out back (with their own rope tow) I quickly relized this wasn't your average ski shop. After an afternoon of a rail jam out back, everyone rolled into the showroom for the Eye Trip premiere. Before the premiere Mike Hornbeck was there hanging out and even signed a few posters. SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ski industry icon Warren Miller today released statements addressing the recently completed legal action that his former company, Warren Miller Entertainment (WME) took against him. He also announced the re-launch of the Warren Miller Company, an organization representing his professional and philanthropic interests initially established two decades ago.
'I am reinvigorated and flattered by the outpouring of support from skiers and friends all over the world and can't wait to see everyone again'
A Colorado arbitration panel denied WME's claim for breach of contract against Miller, as WME could not prove that Miller's appearance in the Level 1 Productions film, Refresh, caused any harm to WME. The panel reaffirmed that WME owns the rights to Miller's name as it pertains to ski films and magazines, but nothing else. 'As most of you can imagine, I greatly prefer spending time on a...
