Superunknown IX

Feb. 1st 2012

Level 1 is stoked to officially announce the release of the rules and entry info for the 9th annual Superunknown contest!

What was the first video talent-search contest is still the biggest and the best- pulling in entries from across the globe, last year’s Superunknown IX contest brought in well over 100 entries from 15 different countries, and we expect this year’s to bring in even more, as the hungriest and most talented up-and-comers in the game try to follow in the footsteps of past winners like Corey Vanular, Mike Clarke, Tom Wallisch, Niklas Eriksson, Logan Imlach, and last year’s winner, Sig Tveit.

Download the official rules and entry form here, then get to work putting together your submission- just over 8 weeks until they’re due!
We’re streamlining things this year- all entries should be submitted online through the upload form below! Upload your vid in Quicktime format and email your entry form to superunknown@level1productions.com and you’re good to go!

For the second year in a row we’ll be awarding a special prize for “Best Trick.” This doesn’t necessarily mean we’re looking for some wild new quad flip- that s#&t was only cool in the late 1970s. We’re just looking for something that stands out as the singular most impressive trick in all of the Superunknown IX submissions.

Sorry, end of the competition. Entries wont be accepted anymore.

Check vids from some of our past winners!

Mike Clarke (Superunknown III)

Tom Wallisch (Superunknown IV)

Jon Brogan (Superunknown V)

Niklas Eriksson (Superunknown VI)

Logan Imlach (Superunknown VII)

Sig Tveit (Superunknown VIII)

Tom Wallisch Makes History… again

Jan. 27th 2012

Aspen, Colorado — For the first time in Winter X Games history, the Men’s Ski Slopestlye final was held under the lights at Buttermilk Mountain. That, along with the falling snow, provided the ideal backdrop for Tom Wallisch’s gold medal record score of 96.00, his first Winter X Games medal.

“This is amazing,” Wallisch said with a smile beaming across his face. “Under the lights in primetime and this crowd, it is amazing. I think it’s going to open the sport up to a bigger audience and make it just that much sicker to watch.”

His winning run was highlighted by a wallride on the first feature, deemed Wall Street that left his fellow competitors wowed. With the competition level at an all-time high, Wallisch knew he had to amaze.

“It is getting crazy and crazier,” added the native of Pittsburgh, Pa. “Everyone was doing perfect runs it was just a matter of trying to stand out some how.”

The Slopestyle course is approximately 1,600-feet long with six features and a vertical drop of 280 feet. Skiers attempt multiple tricks throughout their run on specially designed jumps, rails, boxes and other obstacles. Judging is based on creativity, trick competitions and style. The competitors are ranked based on the best score of their three runs.

Tom Wallisch Superunknown Remix

Jan. 3rd 2012

He wasn’t the first Superunknown, but he’s definitely taken it the furthest and pretty much become a househould name over the past 5 years. You’ve seen his original entry a few times (versions on Youtube have racked up well over a million hits!) but this one has been relegated to the REALTIME DVD bonus section until now. This Tom Wallisch Superunknown remix bonus edit done up by Andrew Holson features all the bangers from the original version along with all the shots that T-Dubs stacked with Level 1 during the rest of the 2007 winter/spring season. Enjoy!

Extra Dark #4 – Breck Park Session

Nov. 23rd 2011

April showers bring May flowers, or, blizzards? The first week of May saw nearly 5-feet of new snow falling in Summit County, CO. We had to keep pushing our Breck shoot back in order to actually see some sunny skies and warm temps- key ingredients for any Spring park shoot. Running out of time before the next scheduled shoot we pulled the trigger and kicked off our shoot in a harrowing blizzard (at night, no less) before the clouds cleared and we were treated to some grade-A superpark-style features from the Breck park staff.

Check it all out in this webisode featuring cutting-room floor (crazy -the quality of tricks and treats that don’t make the feature flick!) shots of Tom Wallisch, Parker White, Chris Logan, Adam Delorme, Mike Hornbeck, Alex Bellemare, Pat Goodnough, and Banks Gilberti. Thanks again to everyone at Breck for all the hard work that went into making this shoot such a success!
