We’re proud to announce the fourth annual installment of FilmerUnknown presented by Sony and Røde Microphones!
The flip side to the original action sports talent-search contest, FilmerUnknown returns for a 4th year, giving a nod to talented up-and-coming filmmakers around the globe and providing them an opportunity to get recognized, win free gear, and get a foot in the door of the action sports filmmaking community!
How does it work? We're hosting an open qualifying round where anyone can send in a submission and prove to us that they've got the chops to hang with the best amateur filmers in the game. We'll then be selecting the top 5 submissions as our Finalists, sending them both Sony Action Cam and Sony Alpha a6300 mirrorless camera kits and a RØDE VideoMic Pro + Dead Cat and having them produce short edits exclusively with the equipment provided that we will then release online. We'll then select the winner, fly him/her out to join the Level 1 crew on an all-expense-paid trip at SuperUnknown XIII Finals and hook him/her up with a Sony Alpha a7sii and Zeiss 24-70mm lens, RØDE Filmmaker kit, Stereo Video Mic Pro, Video Micro Smartlav+ and accessories!
5 Finalists will be selected and notified by February 17th, 2016.
Each Finalist will win a Sony FDR-X3000 Action Cam, mounts, and accessories as well as a Sony Alpha a6300 with a 16-50mm lens and RØDE VideoMic Pro + Dead Cat for use in creating their FilmerUnknown finals submission. Finalists are permitted to keep the camera and accessories following the conclusion of the FilmerUnknown contest.
The FilmerUnknown winner will receive an all-expense pair trip to attend SuperUnknown XIV where they’ll work and shoot along with the Level 1 crew and a Sony Alpha a7sii mirrorless camera with a Zeiss 24-70mm lens, RØDE Filmmaker kit, Stereo Video Mic Pro, Video Micro Smartlav+ and accessories.
Want a one way ticket to a successful action-sports filmmaking career? This is it!

The FilmerUnknown contest consists of two rounds, an open Qualifying round, and a Final round made up of the top 5 entrants from the Qualifying round.
To enter you have to submit a:
- 90 second (or less) video.

Open Qualifying entries are limited to 90 seconds (or less)- anything longer will get you disqualified. Consider this your minute-and-a-half elevator pitch to show off your skills and why you’re deserving of a spot in the Finals! Fancy editing, sound design, and color correction is nice, but we’re really focusing on camera skills in evaluating these entries.
Qualifying round entrants can use any camera, mounts, or other equipment that they have access to- it’s not about the camera, its about the camera operator right?!
At least 50% of the content must be sports related. It’s all good to include your film-school experimental projects, but we need to know that you have some ability to understand and capture action.
All Qualifying Round entries are due by February 10th, 2017.
